I always learn something new when I take Jimmy’s classes. Sometimes it’s a new and complicated shine; sometimes it’s how to refine and smooth the rough edges from a shine that I already know. I find myself learning just from watching Jimmy dance – seeing just how a step is supposed to look. And Jimmy makes it a point to dance with his students, so that I’ll learn just how a step is supposed to feel, and where I’m supposed to end up relative to my partner.

When Jimmy teaches mambo, it’s more than just learning where to put your feet. It has a lot to do with the music. Jimmy takes the time to explain the “mechanics” of the music and the rhythm, and how dancing “on 2” really works with it. And Jimmy’s talents as a D.J are very apparent in the music he selects. He’s got a great collection of music and always picks the right mambo at the right speed for the level of the class.

While there are many different things to learn in Jimmy’s classes, there is one thing that is the same every time -- Jimmy’s classes are always fun. While Jimmy takes the dancing very seriously, he does not take himself too seriously. He uses his great sense of humor to encourage everyone to relax and have a great time – even with the most challenging “moves”!
