ReviewsI have been taking Jimmy Anton's class since September of 2003. I started with his beginner class and have stuck with him ever since. His classes have brought me new challenges and new insights into dancing Mambo on 2. Today, I am taking his Advanced II class and I am being challenged like never before.
Anyone who has taken Jimmy's class knows that he focuses much of the class on shines. He feels that the road to being a good salsa dancer is to understand the timing of the music. Shines give you a way to become comfortable in placing different combinations of steps into the framework of the clave. This then becomes your basis for your partner work as well as your shines. It is quintessentially important to leaders since they are the ones responsible for establishing the tempo.
Even though he was not my first teacher I have studied with him the longest. I think it's because of his elegant style. I would recommend Jimmy's class to anyone who wants to develop an elegant style that compliments his/her partner within the structure and beauty of salsa music.
